They say you can’t have a business in a sole trader structure and be able to go on holidays, pay the bills and enjoy life… I beg to differ with that, as I sit here on the 49th floor in a corner 2 bedroom apartment overlooking Phillip Bay in one direction and looking over the northern suburbs in the other writing this blog with the kids running around being super noisy and arguing with my wife ha-ha the weather today is a little bit less than desirable, so we will stay in today and venture to the buildings pool and swim later this morning. So I beg to differ on the facts that I sit here where I am typing this out because we on our first family holiday which is an amazing feat considering I have had been told by people and heard from others that being a sole trader you will never get to enjoy life ! Well the last 3 years has indeed been a whirlwind adventure with being fired and studying to become a Fitness Professional of Excellence who loves to inspire men and women of all ages to get fit, healthy and super strong, so they can get a firm grip on their lives again… so being fired, having started a new business all in one hit while studying a Double Diploma and with Isaac on the way was some way to get rolling and you could forgive me for believing those that said you’ll never get a holiday or achieve success ha-ha well now here we are LOL

The thing I find amusing about all of this is people (in our case) forget that we have 3 children ages 6,4,2 so a family holiday was never about if we could but mainly when. You see as parents we wanted to make sure our kids were all at that age where they understood where we were going, what we were doing and how long it would be, I mean Isaac has no idea, but he understands the Aquarium, Legoland and the Zoo these are all exciting for him at the age of 2, so we planned the holiday around that age bracket, so they could benefit most. For kids that live and grow up in Devonport Tasmania the only train they see is the TasRail train that is a Cargo train and the Cement Aus Train, they have no idea what a tram is, so we thrive on the little experiences such as Trains and Trams and even the free bus trip from Chadstone Shopping Centre. So the holiday was never a case of If but that of when, and we had planned. So I sit here writing this blog for the fellow business person or that person who wants to start a business but is a tad fearful that the life they have now will be drained and sucked from them, but I am here to tell you that you can still have amazing holidays and take your kids, wife, cat, dog or whoever on a break away from the business, especially if you have a business that you have complete control of. When I started a business I never thought I would have so much control, I never thought that I would be the one that decides on times and days to train my clients, most personal trainers tend to give their diaries to the client and say here what day and time, and the client will usually pick the most inconvenient time in comparison to the personal trainer, I mean for me I love what I do and who I get to impact and if I got to squeeze someone in at 6am that's my call (its RARE) most times the client or enquiring mind is told off the bat that these are the hours I work and have available and these days are the best days. I designed by business around my lifestyle and as we touched on my kids are young and I thrive on having my time built into their lives and until they grow into their teens it will remain this way… My mum was a hardworking individual who at one time had 2 or 3 jobs to make sure we had what we wanted and needed as kids but I very rarely remembering doing anything with her, I played footy and at one point she stopped coming to games, so I made a promise to myself that when I was at an age where I knew I wanted to have kids that I would make my time valuable and that it would be the centre of theirs so that I could be available to see them, watch them, be around them because at one point when I was employed and Alexis was only little I didn’t see her or Charlotte for 3 days because I would finish work, and they would be in bed, and when I got up they were asleep. That was the final straw for me and I knew I had to do something that I was super passionate about and loved waking up daily to do as well as utilise to better suit the times and days I wanted to work.

3 years later, 3 kids, a dog, a cat and happy with life I am sitting on the 49th floor of an Inner City apartment building that has views as far as the eye can see I’m going to finish this piece by asking you a few questions…

IS what you do now making you happy and fulfilled?

No matter what if you love what you do and express absolute passion when doing it, you will succeed and you will have the life you deserve and want. So for the people that say you can’t show them you can and will. For those that say you can’t, I am here to tell you that you can and will, If no one else believes in you remember I believe in you.
