One Door Closes

One Door Closes

So, March the 9th 2017 was a day I will never forget and will also be one I will hold close to me for the rest of my life. That day I was fired, from my job at the factory just out of town. I was called into the office and told that I would be fired for misconduct towards another employee (truth is that isn’t even true) however, when speaking to the boss in my final interview he simply said "We are sorry it had to come to this" I replied it’s all good mate, even though my side of the story wasn't heard or was I even called by the HR staff at said place to voice my side, I still accepted my fate. He said you were going to quit soon, anyways weren't you? I replied yep, that place is a joke and I don't know how or why I even stayed for this long but it what it is and that closed the chapter on me having that "Normal Job" but as one door closes another one always seems to open just right when you need it too....

So, at the time I was working and studying to become a FULLY Qualified Fitness Professional and was working not only on my Cert 3 but also on my Cert 4 and Business Diploma in Fitness. It was hard, I mean really hard, we had Jen my wife out of work and pregnant with Isaac at the time he is our youngest of the three, I was looking at just going full-fledged into business while learning and studying it at the same time, I didn't know where to start, who to train, when to train them, I had literally no idea what or where to start but I knew I had to start no matter how scary it was. All the things I was learning at the time but just didn't put into action because of fear, of self-doubt. They say you should give it away until you build creditable client testimonies that would build that one piece of marketing that hasn’t failed for 100 years and that’s word of mouth. Which I did and well that didn't pan out too well, I was training a friend 2x a week and for free, we rebuilt his rotator cuff, strengthened his bowling are and shoulder, and he ended up bowling out of his skin that season and I thought he we go I might get some word of mouth clients out of this but it wasn't happening the process was slow, the process was frustrating, everything was painful, we were broke as they say ha-ha and living on welfare payments I was without a real source of income and it was placing a strain on other areas of my life. I wanted to build this business so I could afford to do things we enjoy doing and still have all the time in the world with my kids that I desired, I wanted to just have enough to be satisfied, you know what I mean you desire it to most people have that desire as well, it’s a totally normal desire because not many people enjoy the “9-5 grind”

I was starting to grow more doubt, I was anxious, I was needing some more credibility. So I created this 6 week program and literally gave that away for near nothing to drum up some more clients and testimonies which it did, it got me the clients and the testimonies but that’s it, I was bashing my head against a wall and I had to sit back and look at what I was doing and I had to modify the way I was going about it. But wait then the phone rang a few times and I was offered to take on a GROUP Fitness “Bootcamp” and man I was scared, I was given a list and I was told just text these people and tell them who you are and where to meet you on this date !! So here I was looking for answers to solve my problem and BANG!! The answers rang me and away we went with the 28 Day Body Transformation Challenge which I thought was just a gimmick for the company that was running it after all I knew and know even more now that the body doesn’t just TRANSFORM in 28 Days, it takes a little longer than that… So here I was looking down the barrel of the Group Fitness Gun a Gun I was not really looking at as part of my business model as Groups can be quite difficult as you have a variety of people, personalities and most importantly is a variety of fitness levels and having to run a group on a level playing field can be hard, what if the program is too hard for some but too easy for others etc….

Some of the O.G’s

Some of the O.G’s

So here we are in 2019 still with a handful of O.G’s that have stayed on and committed to their health and fitness goals, we have had some come and go, we have had come and stay but in this business and industry more people come and go than come and stay but that’s ok because as people come and go we look at making sure they get the very most out what they want as they pursue them goals, we look after the ones who stay, we provide them with the support, guidance and encouragement they need and crave to succeed at their health and fitness goals. We try to maintain contact with those that have moved on to let them know we haven’t forgotten them, who they are, what they want to achieve, we let them know we care and just a message to say hello and see how they are going is all someone needs sometimes without even delving into the thought of making a sale because that’s not what I stand for, it s not how I roll, each person has made a unique impression on me and sometimes life gets the better of some and sometimes shit hits the fan, but we all need someone in our corner cheering for us to push through and do our best.

Time is of the essence

Time is of the essence

So back on track with the key point of the story ha-ha or flashback in this case when I started this I never thought I would get this far, I would achieve the desire of creating Time Freedom and still being able to pay the bills. When I look back to where I started, I don’t regret any of the choices I’ve made because everything I done and continue to do is a learning experience. But as I look back I remember not only having self-doubt but I had my fair share of doubters on the outside thinking that I would fail, I would be back on the “grind” I had family, I had so called friends, I still have some haters and doubters but everyday I work for me, I work to achieve the things I want, the outside noise is easy to block when all you focus on is yourself and the people you choose to be with. The things that matter to me are my family (Wife & 3 Kids) my fitness family (Clients) group and one on one. So, the outside noise is well non-existent now and I can barely hear it.

So, the key takeaways from this blog if you should need help to find them are.

·         Be Patient

·         Work Daily

·         Dig A Little Deeper

·         Be Consistent

·         Shut Out The Noise

·         Follow Your Passion & Heart

So to close out this blog with a bang, I would like to say thank you to everyone that has supported me so far, past, present and future, thank you to those who have been human enough to admit that they doubted me and then follow up with “Hey man you are doing fantastic, its really great to see you doing what you love and that you are winning, because I won’t lie a lot of people had doubts, so GOOD on you mate”

Success to me is measured differently by each individual, success is not WHAT you have or don’t have in your bank account, success is defined in my opinion by your total satisfaction and happiness for where you are now, where you are heading and it doesn’t matter if someone’s definition is different because whose life matter’s more, Yours or theirs ??

Have a Ripper and Maximise your Life

Hey guys this one is more of looking back at the past in a good way, looking at the reflection of what was and looking at what is now can be a good thing. But I really wanted to take you back to where it all begun for me...
